Under the leadership of a prominent Swiss corporation, multi-generational development effort has been undertaken to create an autonomous People Mover. This collaborative initiative commenced in the year 2020 and extended until the summer of 2023.
The Autonomous People Mover can be primarily described as an electric scooter characterised by an exceptionally wide footboard and multiple wheels for safety.
Dual Operation Modes: The vehicle offers two distinct operation modes, namely Autonomous and Manual.
Manual Mode: In this mode, the vehicle’s control is vested in the rider. The control interface and functionality mitt those of a standard e-scooter.
Autonomous Mode: During the Autonomous mode, the handlebar becomes immobile, and the steering is autonomously managed by a dedicated steering motor.
State Control Mechanism: The transition between Manual and Autonomous modes is governed by a sophisticated control mechanism, ensuring seamless and safe mode switching.
Localization Technology: To enable precise localisation, the People Mover employs GPS antennas and a 3D Lidar system, offering robust and accurate positioning.
Safety Enhancement: Ultrasonic sensors are integrated into the vehicle to enhance safety measures, detecting obstacles and potential hazards in its vicinity.
Automatic Braking System: In order to adhere to safety standards at a level classified as a Safety Level C, an advanced automatic braking system has been implemented.
Human-Machine Interface (HMI): The People Mover features a 7-inch display equipped with an intuitive HMI. Furthermore, it is endowed with LTE/4G connectivity, facilitating efficient fleet management operations.
